mms 1.1.0 rc7 released

Postby arj » Tue Jul 22, 2008 9:04 pm

I'm pleased to announce the final release candidate of 1.1.0. I has taken som hard months, but I think we're finally getting near to 1.1.0 final.

This release is the work of many many people. I can't even begin to list them all as I would surely forget some. I'll just leave the changelog for all of you to look at what is new in this release.

http://mms.sunsite.dk/download-1.1.0-rc7.html

new features:
-------------

- added clock to notification area (configure switch: --enable-clock)
- Add zoom selection interface
This new interface has two major parts:

1) The currently selected item is made bigger to make it easier to see
2) The ui is resolution independant, meaning that it shouldn't matter
what resolution you're running mms in, it should look the same.
- mms -v shows what configuration options were selected to compile mms
- Ability to run dxr3 in anamorphic resolution
- Add the ability to change resolution on the fly
- Lirc handling improved. Now it is possible to tweak repeat rate.
- Add multiple input ability (-i lirc, keyboard or define in
Config). The first device is used for shortcuts in secondary
menu.
- Makes internal thumbnailer enabled by default. This means a
dependency on ffmpeg instead of mplayer.
- Add ability to configure the amount of info displayed in
picture-slideshow
- VDR support in EPG code
- Add the ability to delete messages in vbox
- Left/Right in search => category jump in global search
- Add 'sort by date' to sort options
- Add support for specifying compile flag

bugfixes:
-------
- Make mms compile with newer versions of libtool
- many bugfixes to Python plugin
- Improved support of .flv movie files in the internal thumbnailer
- Install mms with the right permissions
- Make configure --config work properly
- Fix a problem with vanishing media folders
- Fixed some issues with removing items displayed on the screen because of inotify
- Remove annoying sleep for 5 seconds after it has displayed the root warning
- Make picture info work when translation
- Several fixes to playlist loading
- Massive speed improvements to search
- Busy indicator is active while browsing search results
- Make startmenu-button work from within playlist
- Fix movie playback not working
- Update man pages
- Support newer (after 25.2.08 ) snapshots of ffmpeg
- Some OpenGL bugfixes
- Fix play dvd folder
- back-to-mainmenu not working in picture fullscreen
- Fix two cases where db wasn't locked while used leading to nasty sqlite errors
- Playlist-controls (play,pause,etc) not working in picture-zoom
- Fix search in playlist
- Format graphical audio - album view - time nicer
- back click on icon not working in Weather & Search
- Make sure that switching from search to playlist doesn't leave the red
light on
- UI tweaks to screensaver
- Volume interfers with n-a in screensaver
- Don't bail if mms can't find the right audio player plugin, just issue
a warning and take another one if available
- Key for Play-title-now in subfolder (not album-view) not
working (lirc&keyboard)
- Make it possible to shift to playlist mode in global search results
list
- Fix ordering for touch screen input
- Slideshow delay is taken into account although no pic is
displayed
- Vbox compile errors on fedora core
- Add touch support to VBOX

Until that is fixed, I've upped it here:

Edit:
During package building I do get:
pl:
pl.po:96:25: invalid multibyte sequence
pl.po:143:22: invalid multibyte sequence
pl.po:147:15: invalid multibyte sequence
msgfmt: found 3 fatal errors

Hot digity!
As a 1080p user this is exactly I have been waiting for, thanks a lot. I will be updating shortly.

BTW any other screenshots of the new interface in action?

EDIT:
It compiled without problems and by first short tests, everything but the Python scripts seems to work. On the other hand I have not had scripts before so the error might be in my config.

And then some screenshots:

The main menu, I need to disable the features I dont use, to better fit everything on screen, but besides that it is very nice.
Image

The movie browser, FINALLY I can see the movies I am browsing :) A big thank you also for the zooming selection indicator!
Image

The music browser, same things as above, great job!
Image

The picture browser, I am not sure if anything has changed really, but I like the option to decide what information is shown of picture.
Image

And finally, the weather plugin, I am sure this is old news for others but this is the first time I have it working.
Image

Oh and BTW the screenshots can be seen in their full 1080P glory in http://lakeend.pp.fi/images/album/Petrin/Screenshots/MMS/.

No problem, I was asking them myselft, so I thought I might as well. I also wrote a little "ad" about the RC7 into my blog http://mylinuxhtpcproject.blogspot.com/ .

BTW I am having problems with the python scripts, as this is the first time I've tried them I am not sure what is wrong, they just do not do anything when I select them from the menu. I also tried executing appletrailers main.py file from command line, but then I get the following error.

Code: Select all

serveri appletrailers-0.3.4 # python2 main.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "main.py", line 1, in ?
    import mmsv2gui, mmsv2
ImportError: /usr/lib64/python2.4/site-packages/mmsv2gui.so: undefined symbol: _ZN13ScreenUpdater15singleton_mutexE

I found other thread (http://forum.mymediasystem.org/viewtopic.php?t=1343&highlight=mmsv2gui) about the issue and tried rebooting but it did not work. I have also disabled inotify because my media is on CIFS mounts and I can not really see how inotify is relevant to Python-scripts.

Code: Select all

serveri appletrailers-0.3.4 # mms -v
My Media System: 1.1.0 rc7
Configuration: --prefix=/usr/local --config=/etc/mms --enable-xine-audio --disable-alsaplayer --enable-clock --enable-notify-area --enable-weather --enable-tv --enable-res-switch --enable-lirc --disable-mouse --enable-python --disable-inotify

Any ideas what to try next?

Any chance you could get the console output when running a script from mms? Would help a lot.

Cool screenshots Lake-end. I can see you have a good taste in music :) But that was maybe to be expected from someone from Finland :D
