Opinion needed regarding the down key

Postby arj » Sun Dec 03, 2006 12:22 am

Following up on Romans 1.0.8.1 bug thread I wanted to just hear what people think about this:

"Should we keep Patch-9 behaviour or should using "down" in the last row should realy go down?"

So when you are on the last row and you press down should it:

1) Go to start (1.0.8 )
2) Go to last element of list so that it always goes to the last element of the list. And only when you are on the element of the list will it go to the first page (1.0.8.1)

It would be very good if you have tested it before voting :) It's the kind of things that needs to be tested before one really can see the difference.

Please vote and discuss :)

Thanks

Hi,
I've voted for option 2, because I expect a navigation to offer the possibility to be able to select the last element in the list. For the first element I expect the same.

Regards,

Andreas

I voted for option 1 cause the behaviour we are talking about here only comes to light, when one _is_ on the last row! So if I am on the last row, I can choose the last item by going right ... if I would like to go to the first item, I have to press down twice and find myself on the first row, but not on the first item ...

I vote two but I probably go to fast... :D

What I want is (imagine that it is a screen...) :

Case 1 :
- Step 1 :
------------------
* * [*] * * *
* * * * <= last line
------------------

- Step 2 (after 'down' key pressed):
-------------------
* * * * * *
* * [*] * <= last line
-------------------

- Step 3 (after 'down' key pressed):
------------------
* * [*] * * * <= first line
* * * * * *
------------------

Case 2:
- Step 1 :
------------------
* * * * [*] *
* * * * <= last line
------------------

- Step 2 (after 'down' key pressed):
-------------------
* * * * * *
* * * [*] <= last line
-------------------

- Step 3 (after 'down' key pressed):
------------------
* * * [*] * * <= first line
* * * * * *
------------------

Esprit: ok, but what you have described in the example is option 1.

That's true... :lol:
It's just that on my computer @work, i've got the svn version, and it got the #2 system, so it confused me :)

Comments on the down key options:

I like the option of the jumping to the final movie before going back to the first line, but...

MMS displays three lines of movies on my screen so what happens is:

- Step 1
------------------
* * * * * *
* * [*] * * *
* * * * <= last line
------------------

- Step 2 (after 'down' key pressed):
-------------------
* * * * * *
* * [*] * <= last line
* * * * * * <= first line
-------------------

- Step 3 (after 'down' key pressed):
------------------
* * * * * *
* * * * [*] <= last line
* * * * * * <= first line
------------------

- Step 4 (after 'down' key pressed):
------------------
[*]* * * * * <= first line
* * * * * *
* * * * * *
------------------

If MMS is going to display the first line immediately after the last line as in step two and three, I'd prefer the first option where it just goes directly down to the corresponding option in the first line.

However, my ideal option would be:

- Step 1
------------------
* * * * * *
* * [*] * * *
* * * * <= last line
------------------

- Step 2 (after 'down' key pressed):
-------------------
* * * * * *
* * * * * *
* * [*] * <= last line
-------------------

- Step 3 (after 'down' key pressed):
------------------
* * * * * *
* * * * * *
* * * [*] <= last line
------------------

- Step 4 (after 'down' key pressed):
------------------
[*]* * * * * <= first line
* * * * * *
* * * * * *
------------------

This basically refreshes the screen after step 3 so you never have

* * * * *<= last line
* * * * *<= first line

showing on the screen. In fact, given the increasing sizes of TV screens and resolutions, it should probably be generalized for screens with n rows.

Cheers,
ajd

A lot of good suggestions in this thread. I liked ajd's the most (so much for democracy :-)), so that is what has been implemented in patch-28. I think it's a good solution for everyone's needs.
