DVD ripping extension

Postby mydani » Sat Sep 06, 2008 1:05 pm

Hello,

can you think of an extension of MMS which allows to rip the currently inserted DVD to a target directory?

Regards,
Daniel

Currently there are none. One could code one using mencoder and some "autotitle selection" or use gstreamer. The biggest problem with mencoder would probably be to get some kind of useful progress information but other than that it would probably be a lot easier than gstreamer. Another problem is that we in mms don't really have a good concept of background services. Feel free to add it to bug db as a feature request.

Hello,

I think I used the wrong words... I didn't mean ripping but copying. The following solution is exactly what I wanted to have:

1.

Code: Select all

apt-get install vobcopy

2. put a shell script named vobcopy.sh in /etc/mms/scripts:

Code: Select all

#! /bin/bash
nice -n20 "vobcopy" -m -F64 -l -o /path/to/your/MMS/movieshare/dvds  && eject &

3. put a python script named vobcopy.py in /etc/mms/scripts:

Code: Select all

import subprocess
subprocess.call(["/etc/mms/scripts/vobcopy.sh","args"],shell=True)

That's it. Now you can copy DVDs to your harddrive using MMS. And it's done in the background, so MMS can be used in the meantime. When the drive ejects the DVD the copy process is finished.

Nice evening folks.
