automated usb-stick / portable harddrive

Postby oberstpicki » Tue May 13, 2008 6:25 am

Hey, I just got an idea. Imagine the following scenario:

Me friends and I are together watching a movie, listening to music whatever. We're using (of course) mms as media system. :) Now one of my friends has brought a usb-stick with his favorite music oder a portable harddrive with a new movie... But it's no problem, I just plug the device in, udev automounts the device and (here comes the good stuff) mms automaticly adds the devices directories to movies, music, pictures and games, so I don't have to restart or reconfig mms at all.

I'm not shure how this could be done and I'm no c coder either. Just think about it. :)

Just set /media as directory for Audio, Musik, Pictures and hit "Reload" in Options after the device has been plugged in!
If inotify is enabled, that should take place automatically ...

Ah, I see, if I didn't use Ubuntu, only USB and portable harddrives would be mounted into /media and internal drives in /mnt...

I'm sorry, I haven't thought before I posted. :)
