--start_playlist switch for starting MMS

Postby frosch » Thu Mar 13, 2008 5:43 pm

RFC for a --start_playlist switch
which automaticly starting the playlist
after MMS was starting

(should not be so comprehensive)

enhanced feature:

a "--start_playlist=test.m3u" where a
external playlist is used to build up
the internal playlist...

vote for it:
http://bugs.mymediasystem.org/?do=details&task_id=563

greetings,

frosch

you won't convince him, I've tried it already with "tv-on-start=true", but didn't succeed. But good luck anyway.

How is this different from just changing the playlist file directly and then start mms? Or does it also go to playlist right away? Or starts playing?

If it's the last two then I'm not a fan, as acmelabs demonstrates he would like a tv_on_start, someone else might want movie on start. It's just open up a whole can or worms there and I think it does more damage (people having to go through all of these options when looking for something like --input) then it does good.

I still think, if MMS starts the way it was left, would be best, and one should be able to turn this behavior on and off again. That would solve the playlist problem, too.

sorry Uatschitchun, but I thought if it's a switch for starting MMS
it depends more on the core...

my purpose was the last one,
because I'm looking still for
a way to use MMS as an radio-alarm-clock
in the morning (for my bedroom PC)

so I can start the PC by Wake-on-Lan,
or by BIOS-Clock, starting Linux,
starting MMS so far so good
but start playing automaticly is not possible.

Another way (beside a switch) would be a filename
or URI in the command line like most of the other
players can handle...

So why not simply use a player with URL or playlist for the purpose of an alarm-clock? Why use a media-center therefor?
