Short reason: it's spaghetti coding, probably programmed by a drunken monkey (i.e. me).
On a more serious note, I was in the process of revising the movie_info library because it caused some nasty warnings at compile time, plus (more important) it fails to parse some non-exotic movie containers.
After 5 minutes of examining the code, I decided to bin it. It's ugly! I can say bluntly because I am the one who wrote it.
I'll write a new library, based on ffmpeg, to replace it.
Then I'll revise the picture plugin, as promised to Roman
