yes of course:

everything just refers to folders containig ripped dvds, i am not trying to play dvds with an optical drive!

  • Mplayer plays DVDs correctly, but only without dvdnav.
  • VLC does not play DVDs when starting from MMS (with "generic_dvd_opts = %f %a %z %c %o -I lirc,dummy --dvd %d dvd://@%t:%C vlc://quit"). It does work starting it from command line with "vlc dvd:///path/to/dvd/folder"

Ok, and what is the output in log when using VLC?
Is Mplayer compiled with dvdnav?

I just use the mplayer-nogui from the debian repos. i dont think they are compiled with dvdnav.

vlc's output is:

Code: Select all

libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 4.1.2 from http://dvd.sf.net
libdvdnav: vm: failed to open/read the DVD

thanks

So it can't work with dvdnav ;)

vlc's output is:

Code: Select all

libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 4.1.2 from http://dvd.sf.net
libdvdnav: vm: failed to open/read the DVD

Pls post the output of MMS starting vlc (or the whole output from starting the video until vm: failed)

Ok, I'm able to play video_ts folders with both, mplayer & vlc with menus :P

VLC:
Problem was for me, that I had spaces in folder name, so putting '' around %d solves this:
generic_dvd_opts = %f %a %z %c %o -I lirc,dummy --dvd '%d' dvd://@%t:%C vlc://quit

(I'll change this upstream, too)

Mplayer in Karmic and newer is able to use dvdnav, as it is compiled against mplayer's libdvdnav. For to make this work change the MplayerConfig to look like this:
mplayer_dvd_opts = -vo xv
dvdnav = true

Attention: No "-cache" option may be used together with dvdnav!

This works nice and fluent here!
