Spam Problem & User List

Postby acmelabs » Mon Jun 18, 2007 12:53 pm

Hi,

we have a spam problem in our wiki.
Click on "Recent Changes" if you want to make a picture yourself.

We need a solution. Suggestions??

I've suggested Julian to let me grant accounts manually for the next days, until we have a better solution.

Regards,
Andreas

That's for sure the best we can do as a 1. step!

The Spammers always have 6-letter-names ... what if we permit 6-letter-accounts ?
Mom ... u-a-t-s-c-h-i ... ah ... mor than six

What about that single-sign-on thingie we talked about? Would that help?

Maybe we should discuss that one at irc?

ugh. the manual account granting sounds like a good idea for now until a better solution is found. Can't we just use the same procedure as for the forum? The captcha seems to be working quite nicely.

Julian solved the problem for the moment, by adding a few of us to the "Editors" group. Only these persons can make changes to the wiki right now.

Everybody who likes to have the "Editors" state, please contact ( any possible way ) one of the following guys:
  • Arj
  • Uatschichun
  • Acmelabs

I'll have a look at the users list tomorrow and will add a few more of you guys. If you aren't among the lucky ones, please say so, I'll add you immediately

Sorry for the inconvenience :(

Regards,
Andreas

Roman, you've been added to the admin staff. W/o it you couldn't add other into "Editors" group.

These users have now got the permission to make changes to our wiki:

  • Castorinop
  • Elle
  • Esprit
  • Giga san
  • Heinbloed
  • Hendrik
  • Loswillios
  • Mikka
  • PaulMyo
  • Pyromanfo
  • TheBimb
  • Timbba

If I've forgotten someone, drop a line!

NOTE: There is only one condition that must be met, if you want to make changes to our wiki: You must not be a Spam-Bot, that's all!

Andreas

As I've heard from other sites having spam-problems with mediawiki, could it help updating to a new version?

Yep, this is called wiki-spam. The SynCE wiki is particularly vulnerable
to it because it runs an ancient version of Mediawiki. I hope to migrate
this to the new site ASAP.

In the mean time, I'm bored of having to revert all this spam. It's
wasting my time. Therefore, from just now, synce.org is no longer a
wiki. I have just turned off all editing unless you're a sysop. So what
that really means, is unless you're Volker or myself, you can't change
anything! :P

From SynCE-ML ...
