default configs misleading and could be prepared better ...?

Postby Uatschitchun » Fri Mar 09, 2007 9:47 am

Hi there ... I noticed some things within the default configs:

1.) Description
This one is misleading:
# Movie players
#
# Possible values for movie_player are: mplayer, xine
# Possible values for dvd_player are: mplayer, xine, dxr3player

shouldn't it be:
# Movie players
#
# Possible values for movie_player are: mplayer, cxfe
# Possible values for dvd_player are: mplayer, cxfe, dxr3player

What if one sets:
dvd_player = xine
:?:

2.) config-dvb
We do have:
dvd_player = dxr3player

Shouldn't it be:
dvd_player = mplayer

Cause dxr3player is not able to play to DVB and we do have mplayer preconfigured:
mplayerdvdopts = -cache 8192 -framedrop -vo mpegpes:card=1

3.) config-sdl
We do have:
dvd_player = cxfe

I'll set this to:
dvd_player = mplayer

within debian packages to make things work ootb .. though 'cxfe' is only available from source ..
Don't know if this would be even better for defaults :?:

4.) config-dxr3
We do have:
audio_output_mode = -d
audio_output_type = alsa
audio_dev = default

Does this work ootb? I guess it only will, if there's a separate soundcard beside DXR3, right?
And if audio is using ALSA, why not movie :?: :
audio_mode_5d = -afm hwac3 -ao oss:/dev/dsp
audio_mode_5a = -channels 6 -ao oss:/dev/dsp2
audio_mode_2 = -ao oss:/dev/dsp

Is DXR3 per default using ALSA nowadays or is OSS still standard and ALSA has to be enabled by hand (long time not using my card ;)?
Shouldn't the config-dxr3 enable audio-out over DXR3 per default and how would the corresponding settings will look like?

5.) Question
What is this setting good for:
# movie_mode: yes or no
#
movie_mode = yes

:?:

6.) config-fb
We do have:
dvd_player = dxr3player

Is dxr3player able to play within framebuffer, it is with SDL? I know FB is depreciated ...
wouldn't it be better to also use:
dvd_player = mplayer
:?:

So far ... just some thoughts and questions :P

Xine is correct but you are correct in that it will call cxfe so it is sort of strange.

Good idea. Although I prefer xine (cxfe) to mplayer as mplayer has no dvd navigation.

I'll create a package for cxfe this weekend. I have created a repo for it and there is a lot of patches not in 0.9.1.

It does support also now. But it would be good to hear from a dxr3 what his config looks like.

It's really kind of stupid. If you somehow compiled movie in but don't want to show it in the menu all the time for some obscure reason. So you can control it would reinstalling. It should be removed.

Thanks. Fixed.

./configure --enable-dvdnav --with-dvdnav-config="/usr/bin/dvdnav-config"
