can I use both evdev and lirc?

Postby cezar » Sun Aug 29, 2010 10:50 am

hi folks,

I spent the whole morning by trying to install the lirc input, but it drives me almost crazy.
Here is what I have:
apt-get install mms-input-lirc

Code: Select all

....
(Reading database ... 49299 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking mms-input-lirc (from .../mms-input-lirc_1%3a1.1.2~pre3-0prodeia2_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/mms-input-lirc_1%3a1.1.2~pre3-0prodeia2_i386.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/etc/mms/RemoteConfig', which is also in package mms-input-evdev
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/mms-input-lirc_1%3a1.1.2~pre3-0prodeia2_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

The source for the packages is added to /etc/apt/sources.list

I tried to uninstall mms-input-evdev. Than I can install mms-input-lirc, but when I try to reinstall mms--input-evdev I get the same error.
How can I persuade mms to install both mms-input-evdev and mms-input-lirc.
I need them both explicit.

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Cezar

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg -i --force-all /var/cache/apt/archives/mms-input-lirc_1%3a1.1.2~pre3-0prodeia2_i386.deb

thank you Roman, that solved the problem.
But why is this needed? Why mms doesn't like both packages mms-input-evdev and mms-input-lirc at the same time? I would like to see it working without this workaround.

Best regards,

Cezar

It's within the packaging, not within MMS!

Both packages (evdev & lirc) do contain /etc/mms/RemoteConfig, cause it's needed with both inputs. Only option would be to move that file to mms' core package or make input-evdev depend on input-lirc and ship the file only with one of those.

I'll make up my mind on how to solve ;)
