Postby turbo » Fri Jul 11, 2008 1:20 pm

hi all,

can I use ALT and CTRL keys for MMS?
if yes, how to tell it MMS ?
I tried e.g. 'playback, play,CTRL+P' but seems not to work

you can use all keys, 'xev' is able to recognize as separate keys

Sorry, maybe my question was not precise enough:

I want to configure mms input, so that MMS can recognize the difference between hitting a key and hitting the same key plus the CTRL key.
Is there a syntax for the config files to indicate that ?

or separate key-combinations.

Better this way?

strg+p isn't recognized as a special key event, but as strg and p ... MMS only support xev keys though.

so the answer to my question is: NO, not possible. :(

BTW:
the background for my question is: I want to use a remote control device, which is designed for Windows Media Player, RealPlayer and other Windows players.
It could be a simple LIRC alternative (cheap, ready to use out of the box, USB connected).
Problem is: it uses CTRL+key codes

thanks anyway for fast response

Okay, i've been running into the same trouble while configuring remote, so did this approach solve the probs @turbo ?

Another solution is meant at the ubuntuforums right here but struggling the same problem with key-combinations.

sorry, I was not able to follow up this topic.

I think key combinations are still a problem for MMS. There are some workarounds, but no inside-MMS solution.

As far as I understood, there is already a feature request, but seems to have lo priority.
If more people are interested, maybe it will be in 1.1.x (When you look to current rc7, it looks like it will take a while).

Low priority has nothing to say. You can vote for this feature request. See here: http://forum.mymediasystem.org/viewtopi ... =8772#8772

If you can convince people and make them vote for this feature request ,too. Anders will certainly think about it. Promise!

Could you point out in a short description, why this feature request should be implemented?

If something is important to me, I can be very defiant and rebellious. You need to make a good case for your feature request though.

Keep going

Regards,
Andreas

thanks Andreas for your support, its highly appreciated.

But before I init activities, I would like to understand the MMS keymapping.
There is an MMS keymapping, and there is a linux (or x-server ?) mapping.
When I do an xmodmap on my ubuntu laptop, I got lines like:
    Keycode 105 = Next
This is the pagedown key, in MMS its called PGDOWN. :?
Is the MMS keymapping referring to the same database as xmodmap ? If yes, how do they meet each other.
If no, what is the reference fo MMS keytables ?

I found a nice description of keymapping (in german) here:
http://www.ubuntu-forum.de/artikel/11321/HowTo-Windows-Tasten-und-andere-individuell-belege.html, but
    /usr/include/X11/keysymdef.h

I did not find on my ubuntu 8.04
Maybe every linux version uses different files and folders for the same thing just to confuse stupid users like me

anyway kind regards

Gerd

turbo,

using "playback, play,p,CTRL" instead of "playback, play,CTRL+P", worked for me. Can you try this ?
